Brain Imaging Rehabilitation and Cognition Lab

Are you 45-60 years of age? Ever wonder what your brain looks like?

Participants needed for a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study looking at the effects of physical fitness on motor functions. To participate you must be right-handed and a native English speaker.

After participation, you will be given pictures of your brain.

You cannot participate if you have claustrophobia, a cardiac pacemaker, or metal implants other than dental work.

Please call (352) 376-1611 ext. 5395 if interested.

An fMRI Model of Naming in Alzheimer's disease

We are currently conducting a language assessment study for people 65 years of age or older who have been diagnosed with probable Alzheimer's disease.

The study aims to examine naming difficulties in Alzheimer's disease as compared to older adults without memory complaints. To assess brain activity during object naming, participants will undergo functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Those who qualify for the study will attend 1 fMRI session. There will be 1 pencil-and-paper testing session prior to the scanning session. All fMRI scanning and testing sessions will take place at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Participants will receive remuneration for their participation in the study.

What are the requirements to participate in this study?
  • You must have a diagnosis of probable Alzheimer's disease
  • You must be 65 years of age or older
  • You must be right handed
  • You must be a native English speaker
  • You must be able to follow simple instructions
  • You cannot be claustrophobic (experience anxiety in enclosed spaces) since you must undergo an MRI scan
  • You cannot have metal implants (other than dental), a cardiac pacemaker or other metal devices that would prevent you from getting an MRI.

If you are interested in participating or know someone who may be interested in participating in this study, please call the Brain Imaging Rehabilitation & Cognition (BIRC) lab at (352) 273-5249
